What's Per-Form?
Per-Form stands for PERFECT FORM! If you've read my training rules, then you know that this is the FIRST and MOST important rule when training.
Per-Form is both a philosophy and a methodology.
PER-FORM as a philosophy:
A philosophy is the critical study of the basic principles and concepts of a particular branch of knowledge, with a view to improving or reconstituting them. A system of principles and guidance. Thus the PER-FORM philosophy strives to study and understand the basic mechanical and physiological components of weight training as a way of understanding why and how our bodies work and perform under various physical demands.
PER-FORM as a methodology:
One of the definitions of methodology is:"...A body of practices, procedures, and rules used by those who work in a discipline or engage in an inquiry; a set of working methods." As such, the goal of the PER-FORM methodology is to find and apply the most direct and efficient ways in which to perfect movement in order to maximize performance while minimizing the risk of injury.
Practice only makes permanent:
Years ago, while studying magic, I was reading a book on card technique, when I came across a saying that made a lot of sense to me: Practice makes permanent. ONLY perfect practice makes perfect. Think about it.... The purpose of practice (i.e.: repetition) is to help the brain and body learn and remember a piece of information, be it intellectual or physical (i.e.: movement). But if while practicing our technique (i.e.: form) is not done correctly/perfect (i.e.: bad form), then when we actually perform the move it will be done incorrectly because it was practiced with bad form.
Thus, when you are learning a new exercise in they gym, focus on perfecting the technique/form. You'll make better and faster progress and help keep yourself injury free!
We train as we do. We do as we train:
My second training rule and it follows the thought above. You'll get as much out of your training/exercise time as you put into it. If you want to be fast, you have to train fast. If you want to be strong, then you have to lift heavy weights. Your performance will be a direct reflection of your training and having PERFECT FORM will go a long way in helping you rip the most out of your training! Remember Newton’s third law of motion: “For every action (i.e.: training) there is an equal and opposite reaction (i.e.: performance).”
Take a look at the following photos. Can you tell which one is PER-FORM and which one is not?
If you can't tell the difference in the photos below bewteen correct and incorrect form, then chances are that you don't know or understand the basic fundamentals of weight training and of correct form.
This can be easily corrected with a few training sessions together. Please complete this form and I'll contact you to set up a time to meet and start you on your way to a PER-FORM way of training.
